Origin

The onion, which is also known as the bulb onion, common onion and garden onion, is the most widely cultivated species of the genus Allium cepa. It belongs to the garlic family (Alliaceae).

Flavor

Onions have a strong flavor and smell, which decrease when heated.

 

Shape and color

They generally have a papery outer skin over a laminated core.
